    This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand payroll terminology and to maintain payroll computerised software records in a small to medium sized organisation while complying with the new PAYE Modernisation Regulations.

  • Learners who successfully complete this course will:

    • Acquire the knowledge to work with the Real Time Reporting / PAYE Modernisation System
    • Understand the terminology associated with personal taxation
    • Appreciate the importance of accuracy and security in preparing and maintaining payroll records
    • Acquire the skills to operate a computerised payroll software
  • Manual Payroll

    • Gross pay calculation
    • Tax credits and standard rate cut-off
    • PAYE calculations
    • Joint assessment and single assessment
    • Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI)
    • Universal Social Charge (USC) Rates, Calculations and Exemptions

    Computerised Payroll

    • Sage Payroll setup: company files and pay frequencies, payroll administration, security and user control
    • Using Sage Payroll
    • Checking the PAYE table, PRSI classes, PRSI earning bands
    • Maintain employee details, payments & deductions, tax deduction card and notes
    • Processing timesheets, Printing & Emailing Payslips
    • Submitting weekly reports to revenue
    • Backing up and Restoring Data

  • Applicants must have:

    • Proficiency in internet and e-mail use (including attachments)
    • Word processing

    Marks:  Project - 50%

                  Examination (Practical) - 50%
