Patient Moving & Handling Certificate Course
This course is designed for healthcare workers who need to be trained to safely move and handle patients under Safety, Health and Welfare at Work and Manual Handling Regulations.
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Understand the structure of the back and the ways in which it can become injured
- Understand the principles of safe moving and handling
- Be able to comply with current legal requirements in the workplace in relation to safely moving and handling patients/clients in a variety of healthcare related settings

- How your back works
- Anatomy of the musculo-skeletal system
- Mechanisms of injury and Risk assessment
- The basic lifting techniques (animate and inanimate loads)
- Introduction to patient handling concepts
- Ergonomics and Risk Assessment
- Lifting equipment and Risk Assessment
- Practical Workshop of Moving and Handling Methods used
PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR FOR THIS COURSE
(e.g. rubber soles with good grips - no sandals or flipflops etc as you will be participating in exercises)
Who Should Attend
Anyone who is engaged in the moving and handling of patients/clients as part of their role in the workplace or caring for a relative at home.
Pre-Course Requirements No pre course requirements but English is the language in which training is delivered and participants must have a good command of the English language.

Assessment / Certification
Participants will be assessed on the skills learned on the day and receive a certificate of attendance and participation in a Patient Moving and Handling Course which will last for 2 years at which stage it willl need to be updated.
